Pte. James McKeag, 123rd Battalion, was buried at Prospect Cemetery, St. Clair Av. West, Toronto, Ont. A special Veterans' plot was set aside in this cemetery in 1917 to be used for returned soldiers. This was a project of the cemetery and the Great War Veterans' Association. The first interment in this plot was made on August 5th, 1917. (Toronto Star - Sept. 14, 1917). A Cross of Sacrifice is central to the Veterans' plot at Prospect. This Cross was unveiled on Sunday June 4th, 1922. (Toronto Star - June 3, 1922). McKeag's gravestone (see attached photograph) is marked as follows: 123rd BATT. Source: M. I. Pirie |
