CEF Soldier Search

Use this search mode when you want wide flexibility of criteria in a database search.

To begin, enter the desired keyword(s). Then choose from a number of options to narrow search parameters such as "soldiers who died between certain dates"; "soldiers born between certain dates"; "soldiers enlisted between certain dates"; "cemetery location"; "Regimental number range". These options may be used in combination or singly.

Results may be sorted by name, Regiment (battalion), Regimental number, Regiment by date of death and the number of records shown per page (up to 80) may be adjusted. The title of the search output may be changed to whatever is desired (ie. Men from the 87th Battalion.

The report can either be shown on your screen or printed out if you choose the "Generate list" option.

An example will illustrate what can be achieved:

Say you wish to determine a list of original enlistees from the 87th Canadian Infantry Battalion (Canadian Grenadier Guards) who were killed in action during the attack on Regina Trench (October 21-22, 1916) and are buried at Adanac Military Cemetery. To do this, you would enter "87th" (without the "") into the keywords box, then select yes for include dates for soldiers died between box. Enter the date range between Oct. 21-22, 1916. Next, go to the cemetery pull down menu, and scroll down until you get to Adanac Military Cemetery. Now by using the Regimental Number box, you would enter the desired range which in this case would be 177001 to 180000. Finally you could choose to have the results sorted by Regimental number to a maximum of 80 per page.

By choosing the display records, the list will be displayed on your screen.
