Royal Military Hospital

Also known as the Royal Herbert Hospital, it was built in the late 1850's after the Crimean War, near the Thames in Woolwich, at the South East end of London. Designed by the nephew of Florence Nightingale, who also influenced in the design. The hospital had 650 beds and was the main military hospital in south east London during the Great War. Most of the Canadians buried in south east London, in places like Greenwich, would likely have died here. From 1962 it was used as a civilian hospital. The hospital shut down in 1977 and is now converted into flats, with he facade remaining. For more information on the hospital, follow this link.
