Uploader's Notes: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal with Mention in Dispatches. Named to 1384 PTE. W. PETTENGELL CAN: A.M.C. on Star; same number, rank and name but C.A.M.C. on pair. With copy service record which indicates that William James Pettengell was born on 1 Feb 1889 in Rayston, Herts, England, and was 25 years old when he enlisted in the 4th Canadian Field Ambulance at Valcartier, Quebec in September 1914. He reached France in September 1915, and was mentioned in dispatches in the London Gazette of 28 May 1918. His unit war diary noted that:

"The following have been mentioned in dispatches by Sir Douglas Haig, for gallant and distinguished conduct in the field:
NO 1432 CPL THOMAS O.E.
NO 1384 PTE PETTENGELL W.J.
It is with great satisfaction to all members of the Unit that these two were mentioned, for they have rendered excellent and untiring service to the unit."

Pettengell returned to the UK in April 1919, and remained there after demobilization.(info taken from Ebay)
