Description: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  Through his personal courage and disregard of machine gun fire he captured a hostile machine gun and immediately brought it into action.  On his company commander being evacuated, he was the only officer left with the troops, and his cheerfulness at all times materially assisted in keeping up his men's spirits during the heavy bombardment which followed on the consolidation of his position."

Attended Chatham Collegiate Institute, Chatham, Ontario

[Lieutenant Army Canadian Infantry 186th Battalion Transferred from the 91st to the 186th Battalion. Attended Officers' Training School for the month of April. Sailed with the 186th Battalion aboard the SS Lapland, from Halifax to Liverpool, March 28 to April 07. Lieutenant Army Canadian Infantry 4th Reserve Battalion Trained at Bramshott Camp. Lieutenant Army Canadian Infantry 91st Battalion Lieutenant Army Canadian Infantry 1st Battalion A Company Joined the 1st Battalion in the field at Les Brebis Camp on August 12, 1917. Assigned OC, 2nd Platoon, A Company. Attended training courses at the 1st Infantry Brigade School, Pernes from September 03-24. Led his platoon during the attack on Passchendaele on November 06. He was the only officer of A Company to survive uninjured. Recommended for the Military Cross for his actions. Granted leave to England between December 04-19. MC award announced in the London Gazette (LG 30530), February 18, 1918. Suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck back and right arm during an enemy trench raid on April 05, 1918. Died of wounds at the Liverpool Merchants' Hospital, Etaples at 1145 am on April 09, 1918 Military Cross Passchendaele, November 06, 1917 "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.
