Uploader's Notes: Thomas Barnes was a Restaurant Clerk when he joined the 73rd Battalion (Royal Highlanders of Canada) on Oct 9, 1915. Training was at Camp Valcartier and the 73rd Battalion sailed on the SS Adriatic on 31 March 1916. Pte Barnes spent time in a Reserve Battalion in June 1917 until he was transferred on 20 June 1917 to the 42nd Battalion (Royal Highlanders of Canada). The 42nd Battalion was authorized on 7 Nov 1914 and sailed for England on 10 June 1915, disembarked in France on 9 Oct 1915 where it had grown from the 42nd Battalion to become part of the 7th Infantry Brigade. Private Thomas Barnes was Killed in Action by Machine gun fire on 26 Aug 1918 in what was called The Battle of the Scarpe
