Sergeant Canadian Infantry 4th Battalion

Son of Emma Outhwaite, of 57, Gaighurst Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, and the late William Outhwaite.

Transcription of a Toronto Star article dated June 30th, 1915 (see Virtual Memorial photo collection to view the original which includes a photo of Sgt. Outhwaite).

SGT. OUTHWAITE KILLED.

Sergeant William Outhwaite of 1611 Lappin avenue, fought at St. Julien, and lived, but official word of his subsequent death came to his mother yesterday.  In his last letter, he hoped that he might return safely.

Outhwaite was born in England, but lived in Toronto for some years.  When the war came, he was a member of the Halton Rifles, and enlisted in the 4th Battalion.
