On 16/8/17, on Hill 70, during the attack on the CHALK PIT, this soldier, when the LEWIS GUN crew had all become casualties, salvaged the gun and most of the magazines and carried them forward to the advanced side of the CHALK PIT and immediately got the gun into action, causing many casualties to the retreating enemy.
