On 15/8/17, on Hill 70, this soldier showed exceptional dash and energy in the initial assault.
Again on 16/8/17, in the attack on the CHALK PIT, he displayed his courage and fearlessness, by salvaging a LEWIS GUN and putting it into action, although he was not a trained Lewis Gunner. He kept the gun going until a stoppage occurred which he did not understand.
