On 16/8/17, on Hill 70, after the capture of the CHALK PIT, this man was one of a party detailed to expel an enemy party. The N.C.O. was wounded and the supply of bombs ran out, but this soldier and one other held their ground and successfully beat the enemy off with rifle fire. He also assisted to construct a block in the communications trench.
