Description: For conspicuous devotion to duty during the operations at Hill 60, he was the first man to pick up with the listening apparatus (Giophone) the enemy shaft wrecked by us on 06-06-16 and also to locate persistent working sounds in No. 6 listening post (where we blew 17-07-16). Our blows at these two points proved to have saved trenches 39 and 39s from being destroyed from which we entered enemy gallery on 22-08-16. Our deep offensive would likewise have been lost had the enemy blown this mine successfully and our offensive operation at Hill 60 destroyed for a long period.
