Description: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of a patrol sent to establish contact with the left Division. He had to travel nearly a mile over unknown country under heavy shelling, and cross a swamp that was considered impassable. He brought back valuable information, and in addition did good work on protective patrols and in guiding in reinforcements.
