Description: From the Regimental Diaries:
On 15/8/17 this man was No. 1 of a LEWIS GUN section. He, along with the No. 2, after the capture of the final objective of the Battalion, on their own initiative, pushed the gun forward and selected and consolidated the best possible position, remaining there until relieved. On 16/8/17 in the attack on the CHALK PIT, this man and the No. 2 were selected to cover the left flank of the attack. They rushed the gun forward so quickly that they were able to open up on the retreating enemy, he using the gun while No. 2, acted as a tripod, and causing the enemy many casualties.
