In 1940 the war was on and there came a big push to provide power for the airports that were built for
flyer training for the RCAF. I worked for him for the four summers and went to University from Sept to May. It seems to me we covered Sask pretty thoroughly as these airfields were built all over the place. We also spent some time in Alberta working on two prisoner of war camps at Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. For them we built not only the power lines but also the barbed wire fences surrounding them. The fences were actually two fences spaced 12 feet apart. The posts were square (probably 4x4) and each had an arm about two feet long at 45 degrees to the vertical to discourage climbing
over the fence to escape.
