RESEARCH INFORMATION
Prior to the war, Olive Rogan, influenced by her Aunt (N/Sister) Bessie (Hannah Elizabeth) Heeney a registered nurse, trained at the Lord Stanley Institute in Ottawa. Both women enlisted in Toronto in May 1917. They would arrive in England in the fall of 1917, where they were initially attached to No 9 General Hospital, then sent to No 4 Canadian General Hospital at Basingstoke at the end of Nov 1917 to await embarkation to France with the No. 8 Canadian Stationary Hospital. They would serve with the 8th Canadian Stationary Hospital from ~ Nov 1917 until ~ April 1919 (at Camiers, Charmes, Rouen and finally Dunkerque). During this period, Olive was temprarily attached to the 7th Canadian General Hospital in Etaples from Mar 19 to April 13 1918 when No 8 Stationary was moved from Camiers to Charmes in March 1918. She would rejoined No 8 in Charmes in mid-April). In early May 1919, after the 8th Stationary Hosp. had been closed down, Olive and Bessie were transfered to Granville Canadian Special Hospital in Buxton, England where they served for another 3 months. On July 25, 1919 Olive was struck off strength by reason of General Demobilization and returned to Canada. Olive would continue her nursing career after the war, moving to the United States where she worked at the Children's Hospital in Tampa Florida. She retired in 1940 (~) and returned to Danford Lake, Quebec where she became the post master from 1941 to 1950. On October 27,1969, Olive passed away at the age of 77. She is interred at the Anglican Church Cemetery in Danford Lake, Quebec.
