RESEARCH INFORMATION
Bessie (Hannah Elizabeth) Heeney, daughter of Henry Heeney and Eleanor Jane Walsh, was a registered nurse prior to the war. She enlisted with her niece, Olive Mildred Rogan (N/Sister) in Toronto in May 1917. She and Olive would arrive in England in the fall of 1917, where they were initially attached to No 9 General Hospital, then sent to No 4 Canadian General Hospital at Basingstoke at the end of Nov 1917 to await embarkation to France with the No. 8 Canadian Stationary Hospital. They would serve with the 8th Canadian Stationary Hospital from ~ Nov 1917 until ~ April 1919 (at Camiers, Charmes, Rouen and finally Dunkerque). In early May 1919, after the 8th Stationary Hosp. had been closed down, Bessie and Olive were transfered to Granville Canadian Special Hospital in Buxton, England where they served for another 3 months before being SOS and returned to Canada. Bessie would marry Raymond Earle Towler (a British soldier) after the war. On March 10, 1966, Bessie passed away and was interred at the Holy Trnity Anglican Church cemetery in Danford Lake, Quebec.
