Originally formed as a cavalry unit, the Canadian Mounted Rifles were used as part of the Canadian Infantry. The 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles became part of the 3rd Canadian Division, 8th Canadian Infantry Brigade.
